Superintendent's Update - September 4, 2020

Dear Monomoy Families -

It has been wonderful having our teachers and staff back in the buildings this week. Monomoy educators have been setting up their classrooms -- both physical and virtual -- while also collaborating on planning and engaging in professional development specifically geared towards supporting them during this very different school year. That work will continue next week as we prepare for the first day of school on September 14.

We know that many families have begun receiving teacher assignments and student schedules -- we appreciate your patience as our team navigates the new logistics that impact how we schedule our students into classes that will best meet their needs. Our in-person classes will maintain 6-foot spacing (and in some cases, 8-foot spacing), and our virtual classes at the elementary and middle school level will have dedicated Distance Learning teachers.

As part of our back-to-school preparations this year, we held a staff COVID antibody testing clinic last week, and were pleased that 256 out of 257 tests were negative (with the one positive being a case that had previously been diagnosed, quarantined, and cleared). You can read more here. We hope this offers additional peace of mind.

Also as part of our preparations, MRSD had an independent third-party evaluate the HVAC systems in each of our schools. That review determined that the ongoing maintenance that has been performed on our systems has each ready to deliver proper ventilation. Read the full report here.

Remember to check the FAQ page on our website if you have questions, and don’t hesitate to reach out directly to your child’s school if you have more specific questions -- they are happy to help provide the information you are seeking.

We appreciate the large number of families who will be providing transportation this year, which will help us achieve reduced capacity on our buses. Your child’s school will be sharing detailed instructions on the timing and location for parent drop-off and pickup. For those riding the bus, schedules will be posted soon.

We are excited to launch this school year, and so thankful for our amazing teachers, staff, nurses, custodians, and administrators -- and of course, our supportive families. Enjoy this holiday weekend, and continue to wear your mask, wash your hands, and maintain distance. Take care.

Dr. Scott Carpenter, Superintendent
