Monomoy Regional School District announces administrative changes at Harwich Elementary School
June 27, 2022 -- With the announced retirement of Harwich Elementary School Assistant Principal Sharon Hughes in November 2022 and the departure of Principal Mary Oldach for an off-Cape administrative role, Monomoy Regional School District has been posting openings, reviewing applicants, and convening hiring committees in the waning days of the school year. The HES Assistant Principal Hiring Committee interviewed candidates last week and unanimously moved Allyson Joy forward to be the next Assistant Principal at Harwich Elementary School.
Joy has served for the past year as the Assistant Principal at Eddy Elementary School in Brewster. Prior to being in an administrative role, Joy served as an elementary physical education teacher in Sandwich and Brewster. She is currently completing her administrative degree program at Bridgewater State University.
“Allyson was moved forward with high praise from our Hiring Committee, and after meeting her, she is definitely someone with an enthusiastic, upbeat personality, who I’m excited to see working with our staff, students, and families as the Harwich Elementary Assistant Principal,” said MRSD Superintendent Scott Carpenter, Ed.D.
Interviews for the HES Principal position are anticipated to take place on July 12 and 13. That hiring committee will also be composed of teachers, support staff, and parents.
Retiring HES Assistant Principal Sharon Hughes will step in as the Interim Principal in the intervening weeks until the role is filled later in July. Hughes will continue to assist in an administrative capacity district-wide until her retirement at the beginning of November.
