Dear Monomoy families and staff,

It’s been wonderful to have everyone back in our buildings this week. Whether you stayed close to home or traveled far, I hope your break was restful and enjoyable.

As we head toward the end of this school year, it’s always a good idea to remind students to finish strong. With nice weather and increased activities, it’s tempting for them to let their schoolwork slide a bit. Our educators work hard to plan for a full school year of learning, and it’s important that our students do the same. Never fear, there is lots of fun built into the end of the year as well!

In an effort to help make higher education more accessible for our students, we are launching the Breaching Barriers college mentoring program. This school/community partnership will match volunteer mentors with students who may face additional barriers to college, such as first generation or economically disadvantaged students, and offer them additional support to extend the great work of our fantastic high school guidance counseling department. You can learn more about the program here. We are currently recruiting mentors for this program, and are specifically looking for people who may have extensive professional or personal experience with the college application process and/or strong alumni connections – those interested can complete the form at the link above.

Remember that Harwich Town Meeting is May 1, 2023, and Chatham Town Meeting is May 6, 2023 – and both towns offer childcare for Town Meeting through their Recreation Departments.

National Administrative Professionals Day was earlier this week, and I want to take a moment to thank the incredible team of administrative assistants that ensures things run smoothly in our schools and here in Central Office – they are a front line of contact and an integral part of our school community.

Take care.

Scott Carpenter, Ed.D.
