Dear Monomoy families and staff,

April Break is now upon us! Wishing you all a week with lots of relaxation and no alarm clocks. Here’s hoping the spring weather holds throughout next week. If you are traveling, safe travels! We are excited to watch the adventures of the Monomoy High students and staff who are traveling to Japan this week – what a great opportunity to experience another culture. As exciting as that trip is, it’s equally disappointing that the MRHS Best Buddies trip to Paris, France, also scheduled for this week, had to be canceled due to the civil unrest and strikes happening there. We hope those students will soon get another opportunity to explore the world!

Last week, we were honored to host the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Jeffrey Riley. The Commissioner and his team visited to learn more about Monomoy’s innovative social/emotional learning programs. During a visit to Harwich Elementary School, they watched a Second Step lesson on kindness and self-advocacy in a Kindergarten classroom and a presentation by Grade 4 ambassadors about the monthly all-school assemblies focusing on positive character traits. Our district has made the mental and emotional wellbeing of our students a priority, and it’s nice to see that recognized by the state.

Shortly after we return from break, it will be time for Town Meeting in our two towns. In Harwich, Town Meeting will be May 1, 2023 (with Town Elections May 16, 2023); in Chatham, Town Meeting will be May 6, 2023 (with Town Elections May 11, 2023). Both towns offer childcare for Town Meeting through their Recreation Departments. We encourage you to participate in the process.

Take care, and enjoy your break!
