Superintendent’s Update March 3, 2023

Dear Monomoy families and staff,

It’s hard to believe March is already upon us. It always seems like a long month as we head from winter into spring. Luckily, there’s lots to look forward to in our schools, including two spring musicals – 9 To 5 at MRHS and The Little Mermaid at MRMS – and Kindergarten registration at our elementary schools.

As we all know, housing is a very real issue for our community. Our two towns are working hard to help understand and take steps to address the housing crisis.

The Town of Chatham is encouraging participation in its housing survey about affordable and attainable housing development scenarios at two Town-owned properties. The survey, available now through March 12, allows the community to respond to a range of options for housing types and site configuration. You can access the survey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/ChathamHousingSurvey or on the Town’s website at https://chatham-ma.gov/687/HOUSING.

The Town of Harwich will hold its second Housing Huddle on Wednesday, March 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the auditorium at 204 Sisson. This is a brainstorming session to allow community members to share their housing experiences and discuss suggestions for addressing the issue. All interested parties are encouraged to attend.

Keep an eye out for signs of spring.

Scott Carpenter, Ed.D.
