Dear Monomoy Families and Staff,

This time of year is affectionately known as ‘budget season’ for school districts and municipalities, as it’s the time of year when we finalize and present budgets for the following fiscal year. Our proposed budget for FY24 maintains staffing, programs, and services, and continues our work to provide rigorous deep learning that is accessible to all students, with additional academic and mental health supports as we continue to recover from the pandemic. You can see budget information here. The Monomoy Regional School Committee will hold its annual Public Hearing for the FY24 budget on February 2, 2023, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the MRHS Library.

When it comes to household budgets, we know that housing on Cape Cod is far out of reach for many families. Next week, I am honored to sit on a panel with other community leaders at the Harwich Housing Huddle discussing how the housing crisis impacts us all, and what we can do about it. The session will be held February 1 at 8:30 a.m. at 204 Sisson Road in Harwich. All are welcome.

The Town of Chatham is also taking steps to address this issue, with an upcoming community engagement meeting to discuss opportunities for attainable housing. This hybrid meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 15, at 5 p.m. in the Town Offices Annex at 261 George Ryder Road.

On Monday, we held a Parent University with Children’s Cove and Cape Cod Children’s Place – the speakers covered everything from body safety to technology use. If you missed it, you can watch the recording here

As always, thanks for all you do to help make our school community an incredible place for learning and growing.

Take care.

Dr. Scott Carpenter
