Dear Monomoy Families and Staff,

We have successfully completed two weeks following winter break – diving right back into learning and growing! And now we will have a three-day weekend, thanks to Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 16. While an extra day off is a treat, it’s also important to remember the man and message this holiday honors.

MLK Jr.’s lessons are just as important today as they were during his time. He was a powerful advocate for the civil rights of all people, and his legacy cannot be underestimated. You can learn more about him here. Take a moment this weekend to talk with your children about the qualities he represents – including equality, justice, freedom, nonviolence, integrity, and civil rights. Let us all carry on his mantle for the benefit of our society.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

We are nearing the end of our work on the Portrait of a Graduate endeavor, with the goal of having detailed materials to share with our School Committee and community in the coming weeks. I am so thankful for the group of students, faculty and staff, caregivers, and community members who have given generously of their time to help develop this Portrait of a Graduate for our schools. Their thoughtful input has been invaluable and their work is much appreciated.

Take care, and enjoy the long weekend.

Scott Carpenter, Ed.D.
