Dear Monomoy families and staff,

We are getting some excellent feedback so far through our Portrait of a Graduate project. The focus groups with students, staff, community members, and parents and caregivers have been full of lively discussion and interesting perspectives. If you were interested in participating but were unable to attend, there will be one final virtual focus group on October 18 at 6:30 p.m. (click here to join via Zoom). All are welcome to participate.

Another important way to share your thoughts about our schools is via a brief survey. If you haven’t yet completed the survey, click here. It is short, anonymous, and will greatly inform our work on the Portrait of a Graduate.

This project will provide us with guideposts of the things we as a community think our students need to know and be able to do by the time they graduate from high school. It will help set the framework for years to come. Your input matters, both via the survey and final focus group.

With the high school’s Curriculum Night last night, all of our schools have now provided the opportunity for parents and caregivers to come in and meet our educators, learn about practices and procedures, and get an overview of what students are learning. I hope you were able to take advantage of this important way to connect. Remember, you can always reach out to your student’s teachers at any time with questions or concerns. A Staff Directory can be found on our website here.

One more way you can participate in our school community is to join our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Advisory Council. This group is being launched at the recommendation of our Equity Task Force, and will advise my office and the School Committee on a variety of diversity and equity issues. You can learn more about the group and find the application here.

Take care.

Scott Carpenter, Ed.D.
