Back to School 2022-2023

Dear Monomoy families and staff,

It seems like just yesterday I was writing you an end-of-year message and here we are, ready to welcome back our Sharks for the 2022-2023 school year! We are so excited to see everyone back in our buildings -- buildings that are looking great, thanks to the hard work all summer of our custodial team.

Over the summer, our administrative team has been meeting and planning our focus for the coming years -- the team distilled our goals into the following long-term outcome:

“All students feel like they belong in Monomoy, all students are successful, and demographics are no longer a predictor of success.”

While a large portion of our attention has been devoted to COVID over the past few years, we are hoping to redirect that energy toward making our schools more supportive and equitable. While COVID remains a concern, it appears to have reached endemic status, an illness that is now regularly occurring, and likely will continue to be for years to come. While we don’t need to have the strict guidelines in place as in previous years, we will need to be mindful and take steps to reduce spread (much like with the flu or any other cold). When sick, stay home. If it’s determined to be COVID, isolate for five days, and consider the impact of our choices. You can find COVID resources here.

We will also be sharing information across the district related to school safety -- the week of Sept. 19-23, 2022, has been designated as MRSD School Safety Week. This week will include safety drills at each of our schools, a Parent University focused on school safety, collaboration with our local police and fire departments, and training for staff on a new app called CrisisGo, which will support and facilitate communication during emergency events. As part of this, Friday, Sept. 23, will be a half day for students, in order to properly train staff on the CrisisGo app and other safety matters. You can find the 2022-2023 school year calendar here.

We are excited to welcome a number of new educators to our schools this year. Nearly 40 teachers and staff will be joining Monomoy this year -- a hearty welcome to our new Sharks! You can find an overview of new staff (and current staff who have moved to new positions) in the attached document.

Each school year brings such excitement and hope, and our entire team of educators is ready to support and guide students to be the best that they can be. Here’s to a great 2022-2023.

Enjoy the last weekend of summer.
