Monomoy Regional High School to hold in-person prom and graduation for Class of 2021
May 7, 2021 -- Following more than a year of loss and cancellations for the Class of 2021, Monomoy Regional High School will hold both an in-person prom and graduation for their graduating students. These events for the senior class will be held according to current COVID safety guidelines and in consultation with the local boards of health and the state Department of Education.
The MRHS prom will be held Friday, May 21, 2021, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. outdoors, under a tent on school grounds. It will be a formal event with dancing and a catered meal. In order to attend the prom, all MRHS students will be asked to take a COVID test within 72 hours of the start of the prom and must receive a negative test result prior to the start of the prom. MRHS will provide students with rapid testing, free of charge, using school-supplied and administered tests. Pre-approved guests must also submit proof of a negative COVID test, taken within 72 hours of the start of the prom. Students, guests, and chaperones must wear masks unless eating and drinking. There will be music and dancing, and the opportunity for the Class of 2021 to celebrate their time at Monomoy High.
The MRHS Graduation Ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 6, outside on the Monomoy Stadium Field. Students will be able to have family and loved ones in attendance. Each student will be given up to six tickets, with only ticketed guests permitted on the turf field. All guests must be pre-registered, and masks must be worn at all times by everyone in attendance. The graduation speeches and awards will be pre-recorded and played on a large screen on the MRHS turf field. The diplomas will be given out in person. The entire ceremony will be streamed live on YouTube for those who are unable to attend in person. Links to the livestream will be shared before the event.
Prior to the start of the graduation ceremony on Sunday, June 6, at 6 p.m., students in the MRHS Class of 2021 will be able to participate in a vehicle processional, traveling from Chatham to Harwich and ending at Monomoy Regional High School. The graduation processional will depart at 4:30 p.m. from Our Lady of Grace Church in Chatham, turning onto Route 28. The processional will continue along Route 28 through Harwich Port, turning right onto South Street, right onto Sisson Road, right onto Route 39, and left onto Oak Street. Students are encouraged to decorate their cars for the processional, and families, loved ones, and community members are encouraged to line the streets to cheer the students on as they head to graduation.
With the safety of students, staff, families, and the greater community at top of mind, the Monomoy Regional High School team has created opportunities for the Class of 2021 to close out their high school experience on a high note, after a very challenging year. More details on these events can be found on the district’s website at www.monomoy.edu.
