  • Winter Sports Update - December 11, 2020

High School winter sports practices and tryouts are set to begin Monday December 14th.  A detailed master schedule with practice times is posted on the MRHS website under Athletics - Winter Sports.  Please also check out our Winter Sports Covid Return to Play Policy and Procedures located on the website under Athletics - Athletic Department.
At last evenings school committee meeting I presented our plan for high school winter sports after meeting with the Harwich Board of Health earlier this week.  We are ready and excited for practices to begin on Monday and games to begin in January.  We will be watching the Governor closely and monitoring any and all updates from the EEA and MIAA as we know this is a fluid situation.
One important change to our "normal" routines is our indoor spectator policy.  We have a strict spectator policy this winter in order to keep our student-athletes and families safe.  Each student-athlete will be allowed 2 spectators each at home games only on a predetermined list given to administration prior to each game.  The entire Cape and Islands League will only be allowing home spectators.  NO student spectators will be allowed into our facilities.  We appreciate your cooperation in creating a safe environment for our student athletes to shine.
We will be Livestreaming all home basketball games via the Monomoy YouTube and all home ice hockey games via Live Barn.
In preparing for Monday here are a few reminders for our student-athletes.
    1. Register on Family ID
    2. Have an updated Physical on file with the school nurse
    3. Have an updated ImPACT Test with Taylor Murray, our Head Athletic Trainer
    4. Complete the free concussion course at NFHSLearn.com and send certificate of completion to tmurray@monomoy.edu
As always if you have any questions, feel free to call the athletic office or email me at any time.
Thank you and have a great weekend!

  • Winter Sports Update - November 20, 2020

As many of you know we were anxiously awaiting a decision from the MIAA regarding winter sports today.  The good news is they have approved basketball and ice hockey with modifications, for game play this winter.
The high school season will begin with practices on December 14th.  Games will begin in January.  Unfortunately, winter cheer has been moved to the spring, however we will still be offering Cheer for practices and conditioning only this winter.
With that being said, Family ID is open and ready for registrations.  All high school winter athletes must register on Family ID, have an updated physical into the school nurse, have an updated ImPACT test with our Athletic Trainer Taylor Murray and complete the free online concussion course at nfhslearn.com.  If you have any questions regarding ImPACT Testing and the concussion course or if you need to set up an ImPACT Test, please reach out to Taylor at tmurray@monomoy.edu for an appointment.
High School Meet The Winter Coaches Night will take place on Monday December 7th at 6:00pm via a google meet.  The link will be emailed and available on our website and athletics twitter on December 7th.
Once league policies have been finalized and our plan approved by the board of health we will send out more information.

At this time, it is the District's decision to play intramural only at the middle school level.  The middle school will not be participating in interscholastic athletics this winter.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me or call the athletic office.
Thank you for your time and have a great weekend!

  • Winter Sports Update - November 9, 2020

I wanted to send our families an update on the status of winter sports. On Friday we received the updated EEA guidelines for youth sports. Within these guidelines basketball and ice hockey remain high risk activities. The EEA has asked the MIAA sport committees to come up with modifications to these sports in order to reduce the risk of transmission. The MIAA sport committees have 5 days to put this information together and present it to the MIAA Covid - 19 Task Force and MIAA Sports Medicine Committee. Once that occurs, the MIAA Covid - 19 Task Force and MIAA Sports Medicine Committee, will present their recommendations to the MIAA Board of Directors. At that time the MIAA Board of Directors will make a determination on which winter sports are safe to be played with modifications. I am hopeful all of this will occur within the next two weeks.
With all of this being said, I have not yet opened Family ID for winter sports registrations. I am waiting to find out which winter sports will be offered before I do that. Once we have official word from the MIAA and have made a District decision regarding winter sports, I will send out communication with all the information you need for winter sports.
In the meantime, make sure your student athletes have updated physicals on file with the school nurses. They are good for 13 months from the start of the season. As of right now, high school winter sports are set to start on November 30th. This could change once the Board of Directors makes a decision.
A determination will be made by the Monomoy Administrative team regarding both high school and middle school winter sports once we hear from the MIAA.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. As always if you have any questions, don't hesitate to email or call the office.
    Thank you for your time.

  • MRHS "Fall 1" Sports Update - September 2, 2020

As many of you know, the MIAA has approved a four-season structure for high school sports for the 2020-2021 school year. Within this four season structure, the typical Fall season is being called “Fall 1” and will begin on September 18. The MIAA and the Cape and Islands League has approved the following high school sports to be played during the “Fall 1” season: Boys Golf, Cross Country, Field Hockey and Boys and Girls Soccer. The following sports have been moved to the “Fall 2” season beginning February 22: Football and Fall Cheer.

All sports that have been approved by the MIAA and Cape and Islands League for the “Fall 1” season will have to follow all EEA guidelines and MIAA sport-specific modifications. The EEA Guidelines and Sport Modifications can be found on the MIAA Covid 19 Task Force page here.

What does this mean for Monomoy Regional High School?

MRHS intends to offer the following sports during the “Fall 1” season:

    • V/JV Boys Golf
    • Cross Country
    • V/JV Field Hockey
    • V/JV Boys Soccer
    • V/JV Girls Soccer

If for any reason MRHS goes fully remote at any time, we will NOT have sports during that time period.

What do you need to do in order to play “Fall 1” sports?

    • Register on Family ID if you have not already done so. Family ID still has football and cheer listed as an option but they will NOT be offered during the “Fall 1” season.
    • All student-athletes must have an updated physical (in-person physicals only) into the school nurse prior to the first practice/tryout on September 18.
    • All student-athletes must have an ImPACT Test. ImPACT Testing is facilitated by our Athletic Trainer Taylor Murray. The testing is approximately 45 minutes and will take place in groups of 4 to 5 students at a time in the Library on Thursday, September 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, September 8 and 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please contact Taylor Murray at tmurray@monomoy.edu to schedule a time for ImPACT testing. All test times must be scheduled in advance and all students must wear masks while in the building. Remote testing is available, please contact Taylor Murray for more information.
    • All student-athletes must complete the free online concussion course at nfhslearn.com and submit the completion certificate to our Athletic Trainer Taylor Murray.
    • All student-athletes must complete the pre-participation head injury form and turn it in to Taylor Murray. The form can also be found on Family ID and on the MRHS website.

    MRHS Fall Sports Forum

Our traditional Meet The Coaches Night will be a MRHS Fall Sports Forum via Google Meet on Monday, September 14, at 6 p.m. The information to join is:

    Phone: (‪US‬)‪+1 929-299-3467‬ PIN: ‪664 634 109#‬

The Cape and Islands League Athletic Directors are still meeting to determine league policies regarding spectators and finalizing schedules. I am hopeful that information will be available by our Fall Sports Forum on September 14.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding during these challenging times.

  • Fall Sports Update - July 21, 2020

The MIAA Board of Directors is postponing the start of Fall Sports practices/tryouts until September 14, 2020 with the hope that games will begin on October 1st.  This new start date is for both the high school and middle school fall sports. With this new information and the ever evolving situation, we are postponing the Meet The Fall Coaches Nights to a date to be determined.  All of the coaches have been notified and will be in contact with student athletes once school begins regarding practice/tryout schedules.  In the meantime, Family ID will remain open until the first week of tryouts.  I encourage you all to get your updated physicals in to the school nurses, and register on Family ID as soon as you can.
As this is a fluid situation, we will notify all families and students of any new information or changes as we receive it.
I hope your summer is going well and you are enjoying some rest and relaxation.
    Thank you for your time.

  • June 1, 2020, Update

Due to the current COVID - 19 Pandemic all fall sports start dates are subject to change. We will communicate any changes once they are available. For planning purposes we are going forward with the MIAA scheduled start dates, as we would any other year.

As we get ready for summer and look towards the fall we have some High School Sports updates and important dates you want to be aware of.
    1. As of today, June 1st, Family ID is open and ready for fall sports registrations. All fall athletes must register on Family ID.
    2. All fall athletes must have a current physical on file with the school nurse prior to the first practice/tryout.  We strongly urge you to contact your physicians office to make arrangements for virtual physicals if an in person physical is not possible.
    3. All high school fall athletes must complete the free online concussion course at NFHSlearn.com and submit the printed completion certificate to our Athletic Trainer Taylor Murray at tmurray@monomoy.edu, prior to the first practice/tryout. This course is valid for one year only so it must be renewed every year.
    3.  Preparticipation head injury forms must also be submitted to Taylor Murray.
    4.  All high school student-athletes must also have a current Impact Test. These will most likely take place in August and more information will follow regarding testing. If you have a question regarding Impact Testing please contact Taylor Murray at tmurray@monomoy.edu.

Football is scheduled to start August 21st. All other high school fall sports are scheduled to start August 24th. We have our Fall Meet The Coaches Night scheduled for Monday August 17th at 6:00pm in the Auditorium. It is possible this will be changed to a virtual meeting but more communication will follow as we learn more regarding state guidelines.

I will be sending a reminder email out at the beginning of August and as we learn of any new developments or changes.

Have a restful and peaceful summer.  Don't forget to register on Family ID!
    Thank you for your time.
