    Dear Member Schools:

The announcement by Governor Baker and the MA Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) on May 17, 2021 regarding the removal of mandatory masks/facial coverings was reviewed and discussed by the MIAA Sports Medicine Committee (SMC) Monday afternoon.  The SMC voted unanimously to recommend the approval of the May 17, 2021 EEA guidelines effective May 18, 2021. This recommendation was forwarded to MIAA President Jeffrey Granatino, MIAA Executive Director Bill Gaine and Task Force Chairs, Thom Holdgate and Dr. Keith Crowley. Commissioner Jeffrey Riley and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) also reviewed this recommendation. All constituents provided full APPROVAL. You may view the updated EEA guidelines HERE.

    To clarify, this means:

    ·         Athletes on spring teams in active play outdoors are not required to wear a mask/facial covering.

    ·         Athletes when they are on the bench or in a dugout are not required to wear a mask/facial covering.

    ·         Athletes in low-risk sports when indoors where a distance of at least 14 feet or more is consistently maintained between each participant, are not required to wear a mask/ facial covering.

    ·         Spectators and chaperones, coaches, staff, referees, umpires and other officials who can social distance while outdoors, are not required to wear a mask/face covering.

    ·         Visitors, spectators, volunteers, and staff while indoors are required to wear mask/facial covering.

    ·         All athletes participating in high school sports are considered youth and fall under youth guidelines.

Additionally, there are no changes to individual MIAA sport modifications other than the mask/facial covering mandate. As restrictions are lifted, a review of the EEA guidelines will continue through the MIAA governance process guided by the MIAA Sports Medicine Committee.

As has been the case throughout the year, the final decision for a school to partake in a particular sport and/or to follow more stringent guidelines belongs at the local level.

We are excited to announce the return of spring sports! It's been a long year but we are hopeful we are moving in the right direction. Here is all the information you need to know about Middle School spring sports:

Sports being offered: Baseball, Softball, Coed Track, Coed Tennis, Coed Golf

Boys and Girls Lacrosse will be offered as a club only, as this year we don't have any other schools to compete against. We are hopeful this will change in the future.

All spring sports practices and tryouts will begin Monday, April 26.

The first week's schedule will be posted on the middle school athletics website two weeks before the first practice. Our Middle School Meet The Coaches Night will be a google meet on Wednesday, April 14, at 7:00 p.m. The link will be shared the week before and will be available on the website.

All students playing a spring sport must be registered on Family ID and have an updated physical into the school nurse prior to the first practice on April 26th. You can find the Middle School Spring Sports Registration 2021 on FamilyID.com.

    Games will begin in May.

  • Fall Sports Update - August 27, 2020

Principal O'Shea and myself have made the difficult decision to cancel the fall 2020 interscholastic middle school sports season.  This decision was a difficult decision but one we feel is best at this time for our student-athletes.  We will re-evaluate the situation prior to the winter season with further guidance from the state.

  • Fall Sports Update - July 21, 2020

The MIAA Board of Directors is postponing the start of Fall Sports practices/tryouts until September 14, 2020 with the hope that games will begin on October 1st. This new start date is for both the high school and middle school fall sports. With this new information and the ever evolving situation, we are postponing the Meet The Fall Coaches Nights to a date to be determined. All of the coaches have been notified and will be in contact with student athletes once school begins regarding practice/tryout schedules. In the meantime, Family ID will remain open until the first week of tryouts. I encourage you all to get your updated physicals in to the school nurses, and register on Family ID as soon as you can.
As this is a fluid situation, we will notify all families and students of any new information or changes as we receive it.
I hope your summer is going well and you are enjoying some rest and relaxation.
    Thank you for your time.
