Ann Marie Varella - Math Interventionist
Thank you for taking the time to read about my history in mathematics education. Teaching math is my passion! I have been teaching mathematics for 20 years. In 2001, I began working with students at the high school level. Then I worked at the middle school level teaching grades 6, 7, and 8 over an 8 year period. Since 2010, I have worked as an instructional math coach. I love working with and learning from elementary students. The experience of teaching at different grade levels has helped me to prepare students for what they will encounter in upper level mathematics. I have collaborated with teachers to support students in achieving mastery of the grade level expectations from JK-5. Finally, I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in a master's program to prepare me to better meet the needs of our English Learners and to think about the many ways students can demonstrate their understanding.
It has been my pleasure to serve students and families. My current experiences have taught me that providing feedback, sharing insights, modeling strategies, and reflecting on student successes lead to greater outcomes for all students. I truly appreciate the opportunities for growth and the potential for justice in mathematics education for all the students we serve. My mission is to motivate students, accommodate sharing our perspectives, and build on strengths and interests to foster a love of learning!
I am always happy to speak with you about mathematics. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me via email or by phone. Thank you so much for entrusting your children to Chatham Elementary School and the Monomoy Regional School District. We will work tirelessly to meet your child's needs, and welcome your contributions to equity in mathematics education for all students!
